1. Babysit for less. Many parents need a sitter, but can no longer afford the high prices of daycare in an increasingly unstable economy. Check out what others are charging in your area and cut your price by 15%. Laws vary by state, but you may be able to babysit as many as five children in your home. You’ll save time and money on a long commute by working from home. Another plus is that it’s not uncommon for child care providers to require parents to provide cereal or snacks for their children, further limiting any out-of-pocket expense on your part.
2. Online auctions are a great place to profit from the junk in your attic. Besides selling the items you’ve tucked away in storage, you can also benefit from post yard sale goods. Many people advertise on sites like Craigslist, hoping someone will just haul away the left over items that didn’t sell. What may not have sold to 100 people strolling through the yard may sell in a snap to one of thousands browsing on line.
3. Run errands for the home bound. Advertise at your local nursing home and assisted living facility. Why advertise in these places? The reason is that for many – the stay is just temporary. When they return home in a few months they may still need someone to pick up groceries or prescriptions. While it may not occur to the homebound individual to call you, you can bet that a family member will quickly jump at the opportunity to allow you to take some of the burden off his or her shoulders.
